POLITICAL NOTES.
[From Our Corkkspolvdent.] WELLINGTON, August 24 TECHNICAL .EDUCATION.
Mr Hanan is asking the Minister of Education whether lie will introduce legislation to place the 'administration of primary, technical and secondary edijeation under tho control of Education Boards to avoid divided, control, duplication and overlapping.
THE HOUSE AND ITS PRO GRAMME.
The -.ving of the second reading of Un> T*\imic Debt Extinction Bill at 10.45 last night gave the House an opportunity to show its inclination to go on with the bunncss of the country. The Prime Minister desired to go on with tho Crown Suits Amendment Bill in preference to the Defenco Bill, but Mr Massey put in a plea for an adjournment. " I am quito prepared to meet members," said the Prime Minister. • l but we must get- on with the business. However, I am prepared to go into committee- on other Bills on the order paper. - ' Mr Massey was aghast, but the proposal was. appreciatively received and carried into effect. THE NEXT ELECTION.
There aro signs that tho general election next year will be conspicuously memorable as tho climax of strong sustained party fighting, says tho " Post." There are reports of candidates, Government and Opposition, arming for the fra.v. Mr James Boddie (Mayor of Tekuiti) is announced as an Opposition candidate in the Taumarumii district. Mr Bcddie's entry into the field does not necessarily imply that he will be opposing tho Government member. Mr Jennings. Mr Massey believes that there will be- an additional electorate, with Tekuiti as the centre, after the census of next April reveals the increase of population in that localitv. It- is estimated thatnext year's tally will show that the North Island has trained population from the South sufficient to demand the allotment of two more seats to the North at the expense of the South.
THE " WEEK ENI) " MOVEMENT. The political week end," devekrued last session to a slight extent, is again in evidence. On Mondav 11 islit a cohort of iive or s-ix Oppositionists, led by Mr Massev's lieutenant (Mr James Allen), invaded Hunterville. It was a social gathering of the Hunterville branch of the Political Be form Loague that attracted thom, and sneeches on defence and ■ general politics were nvnglod with songs. It is probable that tlii s sort of propagandist week-ending will be continued at intervals by the Opposition.
