THE BILBAO STRIKE.

A great meeting of Socialists in Madrid protested against the troops going to Bilbao in connection with the strike, alleging that this was favouring the employers. The speakers threatened a general strike. THE GRAND TRUNK RAILWAY STRIKE. \, (Received August 2, 9 a.m.) LONDON, August 1. Troops have left Toronto and London (Ontario) for Bridgeborg, where riots occurred in connection with the Grand Trunk strike. ENGLISH RAILWAY WORKERS. (Received August 2, 9.0 a.m.) LONDON, August 1. There is grave unrest among the railway workers, especially on the Great Northern, Great Eastern and North-eastern lines. The men are dissatisfied with Lord Macdonnell's and Lord Gorell's awards and with the companies' interpretation of the Durham agreement.
THE PAPAROA MINE. [Per Press Association.] GIIEifMOTJTH, August 2. The Paparoa miners state that they are prepared to start work to-morrow morning on condition that the manager deposits £1 4s, to be refunded if Smeaton and Harris, after inquiry by the directors of the Paparoa Company, are found guilty of wilful neglect. The manager of the Paparoa mine answered the men's letter, agreeing to allow work to be resumed at any tijr.» pending a full inquiry as to the charge of wilful negligence for which Smeaton and Harris were suspended, and conceding that these men also shall be allowed to resume work until the inquiry is held.
