[From Our Cobh.kvoxdf.xt.] WELLINGTON.'JuIy 30. ' THE THIRD SON. ' In condemning the proposal for a Civil Service Board, 'the member for Thames (Mr E. H. Taylor) remarked that it would close tho way into the service for the sons of the poorer people. In the olden days, he remarked, the first son of the wealthier classes went into the army, the second into the navy, the third into the church and the fourth into the Civil Sen-ice.
" What if there were only three sons?" queried Mr Ti Wilford. "He would still go into the church," replied Mr Taylor, "whore, sir, yon would have been an honoured ornament," • '"Were you a third son? 1 " Mr Wilfoixl rejoined. HARBOURS BILL. "
Mr Laurenson's amendment to the Har.bours Bill, to be moved in committee, provides that in tho case of any Board where, payers of dues are elected, a member must also be appointed to represent tlx* waterside workers, if there, is an industrial union in • the. porr, and such a representative shall rlso be appointed where the constitution of a Board is fixed by special Act.
