THE LATE MR T. RITCHIE.
The funeral of. tho late Mr T. Ritchie, formerly chief inspector for the North Canterbury education district, took place this afternoon. A large number of friends' followed in the cortege and there- were representatives frc-rn practically every school in the district, and from the various bodies connected with education. Tho pallbearers- were Messrs T. S. Foster," W. Brock, H. p. Lane and 0. Allard. At the graveside the burial service was conducted by the Rev W. S. Bean.
The following were represented at the funeral:—Canterbury College Board of Governors (Mr J. C. Adams), North Canterbury Education Board (Messrs T. W. Adams, C. H. Opio and H. Laugfcrd), the inspectorate (Messrs T. S. Foster, W. Brock, C. D. Hardie aiid T. Hughes), New Zealand. Educational Institute (Mr E. TJ. Just), North Canterbury Educational Institute (Messrs L Watson and J. E. it. Smith), Technical College (Messrs C. .Allison, Scott and J. H. Howell), Advisory Committee of the. Training College" (Dr Chilton), Education Board's staff (Messrs H. C. Lane. C. A Hard, E. G. Johnson find G. Penling-t-SUJ.

Flags were flown half-mast high it all the schools during the day. The two most populous rdties in the British Empire are London and Calcutta.
