IMPERIAL POLITICS.

OLD AGE PENSIONS

THE VETO QUESTION. United Press Association—By Elcotrio - Telegraph—Copyright. (Received July 29, 5.5 a.m.)

LONDON, July 28

It is estimated that the cost of the removal of tho poor law disqualification under the Old Age Pensions Act will total £750,000 for the last quarter of the current year, and £2,500,000 for the whole of 1911, while tho rates will bo relieved to the extent of £1,000,000. The million thus saved is claimed by the Exchequer, but legislation will be necessary to recover it. Tho "Times" interprets the fact that the veto conference met nine times in July as a sign that real progress is being made towards a basis of agreement.
