AMUSEMENTS.

THEATRE ROYAL. The performance of "Pete" by Messrs Clarke and Meynell's Company at the Theatre Royal last evening was greeted by a large audience, and the many charming features of -the piece were, warmly applauded. Mr H. R. Roberts was thoroughly successful in his presentation of the character • of Peter Quilliam, and'he was well supported by Miss Beatrice Day and the other members of the company. The dramatisation of Hall Caine's popular novel will be staged again this evening. HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. With the introduction of new films at His Majesty's Theatre last evening there was an improvement in the attendance, and the new programme.was shown to a crowded audience. The principal item of the evening was a series showing a recent football match under Northern Union rules between England and Australia. " Scenes in Italy" showed some very scenery, and "India's Beauty Spot" included some very striking views of an entirely different nature, both films being very successful. " A Father's Heart" was an excellent dramatic study with a strong romantic interest. The acting was particularly good. " The Broken Spell" was another good film drama, and " The Wife of Marcius" contained some strong dramatic situations. The comedy films were all very funny, ami were received with shouts of laughter that left no doubt as to their success. Several new items by Harry Lauder were given on the chrouomegaphone. To-night tho entei'tai anient will be repeated. FULLER'S PICTURES. The warmth and cosiness brought about by tho-recent installation of a number of ; hot-air radiators in the Colosseum were appreciated very thoroughly bv the large assemblage of patron's- winch witnessed the presentation of the new programme of pictures by the Fuller proprietary at the matinee and evening performances yesterday. The selection of dramatic films was one of tho strongest features of the new programme. "The Way of the World" dealt with the bravo endeavour of a young priest to enter tho world and live the Christ-life, the working out of tho story being full of strong dramatic situations. ''Captain Rose and the G-un-runnors " placed a popular hero once more before the public in a setting of romantic plot and counterplot, while "Michael Strqgoff," "Tho Angel of Dawson's Claim " and " An Indian Chief's Generosity" were also meritorious. The scenic pictures included "Swedish Canals," "A Motor Ride through the Gorges of Le d'Hault" and "In the Vicinity of Laos States." A fine film showed Venetian lireinen at work, and a number of cleverly devised humorous films provided the lighter element in a well varied selection of pictures. The programme will be repeated this evening. OPERA HOUSE. The change of programme at the Opera House attracted a large attendance last ev.uuii!?. and ta\o vaudeville turns and pictures presented by the Empire Company were well received. Mr Garden Wilson made a welcome reappearance and Miss Pearl Hellmrich, with a number of v pleasing. songs, quickly won the favour of the audience. Valdare and Varsio repeated their clever :ind humorous trick cycling feats and Madame Carelli, Miss Beattie M'Donald and the Royal Sisters were c(|uallv successful. The new pictures ' included "The I'm-hamum/

Se.i," a very artistic dramatic study by the American Biograph Company, which was warmly applauded. "The Mistaken Bandit " , was a sensational story with a highly interesting denouement. "Mugwump's Baby' was a highly diverting comic film, full of absurdities, and " Johnson. Hypnotised '" -was another delightfully humorous series. To-night the same programme will be presented.
