David, who made a sensation in Court on February 17, was sentenced to five years' penal servitude. Amongst other things he obtained by fraud was the pistol with which he attempted to commit suicide in Court. A man. named David, against whom there were several conviotjonß, including one in New Zealand, was charged with stealing, and a verdict of guilty was returned. David, exclaiming, "1 am innocent; I die an innocent man," dxew a revolver and shot himself in the side. Thore was a sensation in the Court, the Judge animadverting on the carelessness of the officials in not searching the man. The wound uae not serious.
