The application of C. L. Cadell in respect of lease-in-perpetuity 470 and 4(1, Lot 28, Reserve 1381 and 43, Reserve 1371 for leave to sub-let for fourteen years was refused. Crown lands rangera reports were recoived on the North Canterbury Land for Settlements Estates, on small settlements near Cbristchurch, on the Mead Settlement near^ Rakaia, and on. the Rakitairi Settlement near Temuka. In response to an instruction from the Government asking the Board to obtain a report of the necessity for maintaining rabbit fences and Rabbit Boards from Lake Tennyson to the mouth of the Waiau, through part of the Horsley Downs Estate from the Hurunui to the Waitohi River, it was resolved that in the opinion of the Board they were necessary. An application by Howard Bunn, of Deal Hill, for a tenancy of Lot 49, Reserve 2331, unsettled lands to the extent of 54 acres, near the Waimakariri Gorge Bridge, was refused, and it was decided to put the land up for auction at from five to seven years. A splitting license was granted tq F. G. Proffitt in respect of 50 acres in the western portion of Oxford Bush. The ranger's report was received in regard to the application of E. S. Rutherford for a lease of 1769 acres of •Crown iands at Bealey, hitherto occupied by J. O'Malley at a rental of £2 per annum. The ranger estimated the value at £16, and it was resolved, to hold the matter over, Mr O'Malley having" protested against th© termination of bis lease. A petition from fourteen leaseholders of Tamai for improved drainage was received. The Commissioner said that a drain was' required, and it was resolved to get the\ranger to report on the work, and if the report was favourable to the work to recommend a Government grant for the purpose. An application was received from James Miller for a renewal of his tenancy of. Reserve 3093, Motukarara, an area of about eight acres, set aside, as the site of a dairy factory. The -application was refused, but it was resolved to put the lease up again for a term of seven years. An application from W. H. Lylian for a strip of land through Run 103, Alford Forest, giving him access, to his holding, was held over for a ranger's report. > Henry Hearn's : application for a reduction of rent of river conservation reserves 2883 and 2884, Rangitata, on account of the area "washed away by river encroachment, was granted, and it was resolved to reduce his rent from £43 to £35. The ranger reported that a recent gale had blown down a large number of trees on plantation reserve 1849, Hilton, and good timber was available. It was resolved to call tenders for the timber. H. B. Kirk applied for a renewed lease of clay reserve 3660, Rosewill, and it was resolved to give a yearly tenancy. A ranger's report was received on the damage don© by a recent gale to a building on> E. H. Kelynack T s Lot 68, Rosewill. It was shown that the value of th© building was £100, and £50 had been paid. It was, resolved to recommend that a receipt in full should be given for the building, which was more \ than half .destroyed. It was resolved to write to the Waimate County Council drawing attention, to the bad condition of the drain below the Kapua Settlement, by which land had been flooded. , A complaint was received from five settlers on Waikakahi Settlement complaining of the alleged action of two other settlers in constructing embankments to divert flood water from its natural course. It was resolved to hold the matter over pending a further report from the ranger. Mrs Mary Hanley was granted permission to move a small building on Lot 15; Block 111., Waikakahi, and make an addition to an original dwelling oil Block XIV. Proposals, by the Oxford Road Board for the expenditure of £81 9s 8d of accrued thirds were approved. It Was resolved that Thomas Welch, the holder of Lot 8, Highbank Village, should forfeit his holding for non-com-pliance with the conditions. Applications for cropping concessions on land for settlement holdings were granted as follow: — T. A. Protheroe (Highbank), 29 acres; W. Wakelin (Highbank), 10 acres ; John Burgess (Hekeao), 78 acres; R. E. Vincent (Albury), 30 acres; S. S. Wreford (Rosewill), 24 acres; F. Stowell (Rosewill), 15 acres; G. Savage (Rosewill), 20 acres; J. Hajslett (Konika), 35 acres; E. C. Walton (Mills), 17 acres; Allen Bros. (Waikakahi), leave to plough failed grass ; Michael O'Reilly (Hosewill), 18 acres ; Mrs R. Gluyas (Waikakahi), 27 acres. An; application by Thomas Mag^inness in respect to 101 acres at Waikakahi was held over for a ranger's report. *
