[Per Press Association.} AUCKLAND, May 5. Mr C. D. Grey was installed Mayor of Auckland to-day. He stated that with economical management and leaving the prosecution of new works to be provided for out of loans, he believed that the Council would be able to adjust its finances without increasing the total rates.
WELLINGTON, May 5. , Dr Newman, Mayor of the city, and also the suburban mayors were installed in their new offices to-day. In the Magistrate's Court the young man named James Hemingway was charged with breaking and entering the General Post Office and stealing £39 worth of jewellery j £32 in cash, £60 of stamps and a large quantity of cancelled banknotes. The case is proceeding. . " ■ . TIMARU, May 5. The residence of the Rev T. M. Curnow was entered last evening, during the absence of the occupants., Jewellery to the value of £25, and cash £15, was stolen.
