WEST COAST NOTES.
[From Otjr Correspondent.]
GREYMOUTH, April 5. The Otira River is in high flood today, and the Christchurch coaches were, in consequence, unable to proceed on their journey. Cassidy's coaches had rather a trying experience after leaving the Bealey on Saturday. The rain on the ranges literally teemed down and the creeks were quickly swollen, and the drivers had to exercise their ingenuity in negotiating them. This delayed their progress and they were an hour late in arriving at Otira, . and the train was consequently an hour late in arriving in Greymouth. The last long spell of dry weather has- had a serious effect on the North Beach dredge, on acconnt of its watereupply running out. Up to last Saturday no dredging had taken place for about fix weeks, but the heavy rainfall a few days 8 go /enabled dredging operations to.be re-nmed. In fact, the heavy rainfall of the last few days has been a, regular Godsend to miners who had acnteV felt the want of water during the last few weeks.
