[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, April 5. The gumdiggers' conference passed a 6eries of resolutions urging a further restriction on aliens, stricter supervision of the issue of naturalisation papers, and granting of worked-out gum lands to gumdiggers on easy conditions. WANGANUI, April 5. In the Supreme Court Mr Justice Sim delivered judgments in a number of oases this afternoon, including G. V. Pearce, M.P., Patea, •v. Albert Symes» Waverley, claim £50 damages for libel. The case arose out .of advertisements appearing in the " Patea Press." On the main action, judgment was given for plaintiff for £10 and costs, and on the counter-claim judgment was given for the defendant for £5, each party to pay its costs. WELLINGTON, April 5.
The Health Department prosecuted a" local pork butcher to-day for selling meat unfit for ' human consumption. The Magistrate imposed a fine of • £2 and costs amounting to £4 14s. , DUNEDIN, April 5. Mr Ayson, Inspector of Fisheries, arrived from London by the Rakaia this morning. He brought with him half a million Atlantic salmon ova, which arrived in good condition. .They will be forwarded to Lake Te Anau. A similar quantity was brought out by the .Turakina a few weeks ago for liberation in the. same locality. . .* \[
