, [From Otjr Correspondent.] 'i. ■' ■' ASHBURTON, April 5, A nor'-wester raged with hurricane force at Ashburfcon on Sunday night, and in the Springburn- and - Mount Somers districts grain, stacks were blown down, trees uprooted, gates lifted off their hinges and chimney-tops blown off. > The Volunteer tents • that had been erected in the Mount Somers Domain, in view of the Easter encampment, were levelled to the ground.* The gale at Ashburtbn, although fierce, was not nearly so destructive, and, beyond blowing off fruit, very little damage is reported. This morning there is almost an entire absence of snow on the ranges. ' [Per Press Association.] GORE, April 5. The rainfall last night was 1.69 inches, the heaviest fall ever recorded .in Gore for one day. It was accompanied by a heavy gale, but no serious damage is reported. t ,■ Mr Paulin's weather forecast this morning was : — " Squally to gale, N.W. Ito S. W. winds and heavy rain showers." . * ;.
