MEETING OF J. T. SMITH'S CREDITORS.

A meeting of creditors in ,the estate of the late J. T. Smith, bookseller, of Christchurch, was held at the office of the Official Assignee this morning, in pursuance of an order of the Supreme Court directing that the estate should be administered in bankruptcy. The following creditors were present :— - Messrs H. B- Q^key, Howison. Heywood and Co. (Mr;Beadel) and M- Fox. (rent) £272 10s, Partridge and Co. £80 '4s 9d, Religious Tract Societv £27 8s lid, J. Grubb £23 7s 6d, D. J. Aldersley £9 12s 6dj Brown and Stewart £5 12s 6d, R. Culley £375 I2s Bd, Collins Biros. £25 15s Bd, City Council (rates) £28 9s 6d, J. M. Hey wood and Co. £47 6s 3d, Methodist Book Depot, £15 Is 9d, New Zealand Insurance Co.' £6 15s, New Zealand Bible and Track Society £5 2s lOd, " Outlook " £19 _«»'.. .The statement of assets and liabilities? showed liabilities to secured creditors £289 lis 7d, with other liabilities amounting to £1297 12s 2d, a total of £1437 9s 9d, after deducting the estimated value of securities, £150. *7&e assets amounted to £1237 8s lid, including stock-in-trade £843 13s, shop fittings £45, book debts £260 15s ild, and goods lying at the Christchurch railway station £88, leaving a deficiency of £200 0s lOd.

The Official Assignee said thrjit the business was still being carried cm, and sales during March had reduc/ed the value of the stock-in-trade t-jqi about £786. It Was his intention to/ at once call for tenders for the disposal of the business. /

The meeting agreed to tliis course, and a creditor was appointed to confer with the Official Assignee* in respect to »th 6 acceptance or otherwise of tenders. ..
