LONDON, April 4
Mr C. A. Haskell was acquitted on the second trial, the* jury considering the evidence insufficient to convict.
(Mr Hearst created a great sensation in September by a number of speeches ''in which he accused Senator Foraker. and other Republicans, and Mr C. A. Haskell, chairman of the Democratic Platform Committee, of having had financial and -othejr relations witH the Standard Oil Company, and being at the "beck and call of the Standard." Mr Foraker stated that the moneys he received from the Standard Company were legal fees, but he withdrew from active participation in the electoral campaign. Mr Haskell denied the accusations, but resigned his position on the Democratic Platform Committee. A storm of indignation and resentment was aroused by the letters which Mr Hearst made public. Mr Haskell was prosecuted* as a result ot the agitation.)
