The Lord Mayor presided. at a great citizens 1 meeting to welcoaie Professor David. The doors of the Town Hall were closed early - to prevent overcrowding. Professor David was locked, out, and was iwable to gain entrance for half an hour, and the Federal At-torney-General only forced his way through on the back of an alderman. Hundreds were unable to gain admission. Professor David, in the course, of his speech, said it was almost as difficult to get into the gathering as it was to work his was up to the Magnetic Pole. In this connection he wished to say with great, emphasis that the Magnetic Pole was; not discovered and was not located -.by him, but by Mr Mawson. He laid stress on the fact that during four months of the journey the party had not one drop of alcohol, 1 except on. one occasion — a birthday celeI bration— when they had just a little wine, but they found that their resistance to cold dropped, so they dropped alcohol.
