THE FIRE SUPERINTENDENT.
— . «. AN APPOINTMENT MADE. • The Christchuroh Fire Board met last evening to appoint a •superintendent of the Christchurch Fire Brigade, eighteen applications having boon received. There were present — Messrs J. D. Hall, (chairman), C. J. Cooper. 0. Alliisou, H. ft. Rusbridge. H. B. Sorenson, 11. S. Batchelor and W. D. Meares. The Board went into conimittco to consider the applications, and on resuming it was reported that the Board had appointed Mr Arthur M. Erck, of the Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade, to the position of superintendent. In his application Mr Erck " Etaied that he was a native of London, fortyfour years of age, and would be prepared to begin his duties about the beginning of February. Credentials from the chief officer of the Melbourne brigade stated that Mr Erck joined the brigade on March (j, 1891. He was promoted to bo enginedriver in 1894 and to foreman in 1899. Since then he Inid boon in charge of some of the most important city and suburbnn stations, and his conduct had | been excellent and his abilities unquestionable.
