TRAMWAY BOARD.
» YESTERDAY'S MEETING. The Chnstchurch Tramway Boar<i met yesterday; present — Messrs A. W, Beaven (chairman), G. T. Booth, W. Recce, J. Richardson, H. Pearce, S. A, Staples, D. Sykes,and J. A. Flesher. EXTENSIONS NORTHWARDS. The chairman said that a deputation was about to wait on the Board asking for an extension of the present Edgeware .Road line north for a short distance; while another deputation intended to wait on the Board at its nexi meeting to ask for an extension of'tht Colombo Street line north to Edgewart Road, and thence up Cranford Street the proposal being that the line shoulc be extended eventually to Papamii Road. Tho deputation being admitted, Mi Morgan read a petition signed by 36t ratepayers, asking that the Barbadcej Street line should be extended a distance of twenty-eight chains to Warrington Street. The line, he said ; would run past St Albans Park, lane for a road having been given by Mi Bing. The road.was to be made by tht City Council, and a saving would be effected if the line was laid at the same time. There was a fast-growing population in the district, and the extra distance could be covered under the present time-table instead of the cai waiting at the terminus. The lint from Warrington Street could be extended in any direction. Mr G. Hyde also spoke, stating- thai eventually the line might be run round to the west and back to meet Colombc Street again. The chairman said that the matter would be considered. CONDUCTOR'S WAGES. The Tramway Employees' Union wrote, stating that the Staff Committees' report, as adopted by the Board, suggesting a half-penny per hour increase in conductors' wages had been submitted to a general meeting of the Union, which had decided that the Board's decision was not acceptable to it,- but that the question had been -deferred for further consideration. The letter was received. PENNY SECTIONS. The Linwood Citizens' Association wrote, asking that the present Linwood penny section from the Clock Tower to Stanmoro Road should be altered to a section from Cathedral Square to Rolleston Street, and that the Ferry Road penny section should be from Cathedral Square to Wilson's Road, instead of from Latimer Square to Fitzgerald Avenue. The chairman said that the distance from Cathedral, Square to Rolleston Street was one mile 22 chains, and from Cathedral Square to Wilson's Road was one mile 21 chains. The average length of the penny sections was one mile. It was decided to inform the Association that the Fares Committee had the matter under consideration. Mr Staples gave notice to more — " That the first section on each line shall commence as from Cathedral Square, and that all three overlapping sections be abolished. EXTENSION OF LINES AND PLANT. Mr Pearce cave notice to jm»v« at
the next meeting— " That the Works and Traffic Committee consider and report on the following works :— Selwyn Street extension; Central St Albans extension ; Cashel Street extension ; Hackthorne Road extension ; additions to power-house ; extra plant for power-house ; twelve electric cars ; erection of car-shed in Cathedral Square; electrification of Burwood, Fendalton arid Opawa lines ; the amount of money required to complete the above works and the best way of raising; it ; such re port to be made by December 1, 1908.'' MISCELLANEOUS. ! The tenders for Supplies Committee recommended that the tender of Messiv Mason, Struthers and Co. for moto; bearing oil should be accepted.
