A BOAT RACE. United Press Association— By Eleotrio Telegraph— Copyright. SYDNEY, August 24. Two hundred thousand persons witnessed the review of naval and military forces in Centennial Park. Fourteen thousand men and cadets were tinder arms, including 2600 American Jwdlora and marines. Lord Northeote, Sir Harry Rawson,' Admiral Sperryand tyther admirals, Mr Deakin and sixteen captains of the American Fleet were present at the saluting^ base. The retiexr was the finest ever seen in Australia. The troops, after the review, marched to Sydney. The streets wore thronged with hundreds of thousands of spectators. Glorious weather enhanced the brilliant spectacle. There was a great boat race, between the champion crew from the Louisiana »nd a dozen of the best men of the Illinois, for a stake of 28,000 dollars. It was rowed across the heads, from Dear Manly to Clark Island, a distance Df three miles and a half. Each ship contributed 14,000 dollars. The Illinois crew got away first, but the Louisiana men, rowing better, drew level in the first quarter of a mile, and at a mile had six lengths advantage, eventually irinning by twenty lengths.
