Frozen Meat. — The Frozen Meat Trades Association's Sniithneld market quotations for the undermentioned classes of frozen meats are based on actual sales of not less than 100 carcases of mutton or lamb, or twenty-live carcases of beef of fair average quality. These quotations are not for selected lines, but for parcels fairly representative of the bulk of the shipments now on the market: — Mutton — New Zealand cross-bred wethers and maiden ewes, North Island, 561 bto 651 b, 3Jd; best brands, 3|d; rest unchanged. Lamb — Canterbury, light, 281 bto 861 b, 5 9-16 d; medium, o|d ; heavy, 361 bto 421 b, sd. Beef— Ox forequarters. 1801 b to 2201 b, 3*d j ox hindquarters, 1801 bto 2201 b, 4£d. River Plate mutton is unchanged ; beef, forequarterg 3^d, hindquarters 4id. (Last week's quotations were : — Frozen Meat — Mutton — New Zealand cross-bred wethers and maiden ewes, Canterbury, none offering; North Island, 3£d.: best brands, 31d. Copper.— On spot £60 per ton, three months' £60 15s per ton; electrolytic £63 per ton. Tin.— On spot £132 15s per ton, three months' £133 10s per ton. Lead.— £l3 8s 9d per ton. Silver. — Is llfd per oz. Antimony. — £8 10s to £9 per ton. Tin Plate,— l2s 9d to 13s 9d. . . Tram Rails. — £5 per ton. "Wire Netting. — Quotations are 62£ per c&nt and 85 pei> cent off the list. GRAIN. Wheat. — The total quantities of wfieab and flour afloat for the United Kingdom amount to 2,005,000 quarters, and for the Continent to 1,343,000 quarters. Atlantic shipments are 462.000 quarters. The total shipment to Europe for the week amounts to one million bushels, including 175,000 bushels from Argentina and Uruguay. MISCELLANEOUS. Copra. — Copra is quiet; South Sea £17 2s 6d per ton.. Linseed 0i1.— £24 15s per ton. Hemp. — The- market is firm ; AugustOctober shipment £26 15s per ton, Oc-tober-December £26 10s per ton. Cheese. — New Zealand 60s to 62s per cwt, Canadian 60s to 61s. Leather, Hides, etc. — Hides, were neglected at the periodical sales, ,and 5000 offerod found no buyers. The leather market is unchanged; basils sold at nar to a halfpenny advance; first Wellington 16id to 16|d. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. [Pfeß Pkess Association.] WELLINGTON, August 24. • The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable message from the High Commissioner, dated London, August 22 :— Frozen Meat. — Mutton — The market shows a good demand for prime quality light weights. With this exception trade in all classes of mutton is very slow and prices are barely maintained. The supply of Canterbury brands is practically exhausted, and North Island mutton is quoted at 3?d. Lamb — The market shows a steady demand, chiefly for light weight Canterbury, which I*6 qvioted at ojjd,- other than Canterbury S^d. Bee!' — The market is firm, owing to reduced supplies. Some of the New Zealand beef now oh the market is of inferior quality, but that from the Argentine is of very fine quality. New Zealand hindquarters are quoted at 4|d, forequarters 3|d. Butter.— The market is quiet with a moderate business doing. Danish butter is quoted at 120s per cwt, Siberian 103s, Canadian 116s. Cheese.— The market is firm v?}th a good demand. The following are current quotations -.—Canadian makes 61s, New Zealand white 61s, coloured 60s. Hemp. — The market is quiet and rather steadier; good fair grade spot is quoted at £26 15s per ton, fair grade spot £23. fair current Manila spot £23 ss. October-December shipments are quoted as follow :— Good fair grade £26 10s per ion. fair grade £23, fair current Manila £23. Last week's output from Manila amounted to 19,000 bales.
