BOXING.

NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. The Theatre Royal was again crowded last evening, when the semi-finals and finals of the New Zealand Championships, conducted under the auspices of the Christchurch Sports Club, were decided. The boxing was generally of a higher grade than that of the previous evening. In the Bantamweight Championship J. Parker scored a meritorious' win after two hard-fought bouts. The Middle-weight Championship was won by 5. Smith (Auckland), whose opponent in the final, A. Thomson (Marlborough), was counted out in the first round. In the Heavy-weight Championship M. P. Ryan (Invercargill), a heavy, powerful and sportsmanlike boxer, demonstrated his superiority over P. Hale (Wellington), a clever and self-possessed boxer, in one round. In the Light-weight Championship T. Metcalf (Wellington) beat J. H. Firtuerty (Southland) after one of the most closely contested bouts ever seen in Christchurch. R. Mayze (Canterbury) scored a win by default over O. JVj Parry (Wellington) in the Welter- 1 weight Championship, and W.
