SUPREME COURT.
CRIMINAL SITTINGS. Friday, August 21. (Before his Honor Mr Justice Denniston.) The criminal sitting of the Supreme Court was continued this morning. Mr T. G. Russell, Acting-Crown Prosecutor, conducted the cases for the Crown. A SENTENCE INFLICTED. William Bell, aged twenty-eight, was brought up for sentence on a charge of breaking and entering and theft, to which he had pleaded guilty in the lower Court. Mr Russell said the accused had been medically examined as to his sanity, but although he was not quite sound he was not bad enough for a mental asylum. His Honor said the case did not appear to be a very serious one. The accused would be sentenced to six months' imprisonment. ALLEGED ILLEGAL OPERATION. John Pearson , v for whom Mr Alpers appeared, was charged with unlawfully using an instrument to procure abortion, and on further counts with misrepresentation, and with indecent assault between January 1 and February 5, at' Christchurch.
