For tho Lord Roberts Challenge Trophy for School Cadets, Natal isviat present leading with 487, England j being second with a score of 459. Sergeant Friar, the Auckland cadet, was introduced to Lord Roberts, who presented him with a match rifle in commemoration of Bis visit and good shooting in the Cheylesmore and Guimies3 competitions, in both of which Friar was second. Copeland, (an Australian cadet, was ninth in tho Guinness Competition. (Sergeant Friar, who has achieved such succes.s at Bisley, is a member of the Onehuuga Hj>h. School Cadets. He was selected to represent New Zealand at the cadtt competitions at the famous English shooting ground, and left far Homo on May 4. Ho lias by his good shooting brought honour to the dominion, and New Zealanders wi'-l b© proud of the fine showing which the young markSman has made. The Lord Roberts ]\latch is now being fired throughout the Empire, and it must be completed by August 31. The conditions are as follow : — Teams to consist of eight school cadets of sixteen years of age and under \ seven shots each at 200 and 500 yds. The New Zealand team has been selected, and the representatives will meet at Trentha'm in a few days to fire over the distances of the competition. Canterbury lias two marksmen in the team, Sergeant Cowens and Cadet O'Connor, both of the Rangiora High School Cadets.)
