A NEW ZEALAND CONFERENCE.

I A conference of delegates from the various Bosing Associations affiliated to the Nctv Zealand Boxing Council was hold yesterday in the Pioneer Club rooms. '.There we're present — Messrs J. R. Evans (chairman), C. J. Cooper, C T. Aschman, A. R. Kirk, F. W. Johnston and J. F. Grierson (representing the Council), A. J. Langham and N. W. Mander (MarlboTough), W. Hart (Havrke's Bay), T. D. Pearson (Southland), T. W. "Brown and P. A. Keddell (Westland), T. E. Robson and A. Dickson (Canterbury), T. Snow and J. Isaacs (Otago), H. Sharplin (Ashbur♦ton), W. A. Jordan and H. J. A. Randrup (Timaru), and W. Coffey (Wellington, Manawatu, Auckland and Horowhen.ua). The question of admitting Victoria and Tasmania into the agreement in regard to the Australasian championships, at present subscribed to by only Queensland, New South Wales and 1 New Zealand, was discussed at length, the chief matter at issue being whether the Council should bind itself to send a team to participate in the championships annually or every second- year. If th© two States wore admitted, the Australasian championships would be held in New Zealand once in every five years. It was finally decided that the Council should agree to birid itself to send a New Zealand team to a championship meeting outside the dominion twice in the five years during which the agreement would be valid. In regard to the Australasian agree- j ment, it was resolved that a professional boxer could be reinstated as an amateur by each State, but that such a reinstatement .should have no effect in any other State unless it had been endorsed by the State imposing the disqualification, and that no reinstated boxer could compete at an Australasian championship meeting unless his reinstatement had been endorsed by each of the subscribing States. The question of the amount of subscriptions and the grading of the various Associations was referred to the Council. The advisability of limiting the value .of prizes offered for amateur competitions was brought up and was freely discussed, almost every delegate being iv favour of limiting the value to £5, but there was some argument concerning ite application to championship events. It was decided that the prize for an amateur contest should be j valued at not more than £5;, and that the trophy obtained when an open order was given should be engravable, and that all medals should be of the advertised value. The conference decided that b. nro- j moting body wishing to secure a com- ! potitor from another district, should j do so through the secretary of the local Association in that district. It was resolved that the Council should formulate a scheme to promote championships in secondary^ schools, and submit it to the Associations. After a, long discussion as to the time j/at which competitors at championship meetings should be weighed, it was resolved that competitors should be weighed between 5 and 8 o'clock in the evening of the day on which the cham--1 pionships wero decided. It was unanimously decided that the Council should be recommended to amend the rules in the direction^ of making all the Associations responsible direct to the Council, instead of to Centres, as at present. It was resolved that the conference was of opinion that legislation should be introduced to give a legal status to the New Zealand Boxing Coifncil. for the purposes of administering the Police ! Offences Act Amendment Act, 1907. and that the Government should be urged to give effect to tlie resolution.
