POLITICAL LABOUR LEAGUE.
♦ A meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Political Labour League was held last evening in the League's offices in Chancery Lane, Mr D. hullivan (president) in the chair. Correspondence was received from the Wellington and Auckland brandies regarding the general election and the appointment of permanent organisers. The following resolutions were unanimously carried: — " That this meeting itrongly urges the Government to amend the Municipal Corporations Act •o as to compel vendors of fruit, fish »nd vegetables to sell their products in municipal markets." " That this meeting of the Political Labour League rtrongly protests against the expenditure of public money on tue entertainment of the American fleet while there exists so much poverty and unemployment in the dominion." "That this meeting wishes to place on record its strong disapproval of tho policy «»f Btate-assisted immigration at the present time, seeing that the supply of labour is in excess of the demand"" In connection with the general elf-c---i: on, it was resolved to announce Mr James Thorn as a Socialist candidate [ for Christchurch -South. A resolution ' was passed asking Mr D. G. Sullivan to ftand for Avon in the same interests. The secretary was instructed to majra inquiries as to the cost of maintaining », Labour newspaper during the election period, and to report at the next meetThe secretary reported that the col lections during the month had amounted to £6 10s, and that £3 worth of literature had been sojd. Bis new members were elected.
