DOMAIN BOARD.
.The Christchurch Domain Board met yesterday ; present — Mr H. P. MurrayAy nslcy (in the chair) , the Hori C. C. Bowen, Messrs T. H. Davey. M.P., C. Allison^ W. Dunlop, J. Wolfe, B. P. Manhire and S. A. Staples. A request from the Canterbury Cricket Association that it should be permitted to erect a fence between the Hagley Park pavilion and the Riccarton Road, the Association to provide labour, material and one gate, and the Board to suppfy a small gate, was referred to the garden Committee. An application for permission to sell drinks on the river bank on Sundays and holidays was granted at a fee of £1. \ r The tender of Messrs Booth , Macdoriald and Co., at £31 10s, was accepted for a horse roller, subject to the approval of Messrs Staples and Dunlop. The head gardener, (Mr James Young) reported that work in the gardens had been progressing favourably during the month, the principal work being the relaying of box edging, the renovating of the walk leading to the south bridge; the repairing of long borders for spring work, and the sowing of seeds and propagating of plants ■ for spring bedding. Wood cutting had been going on steadily for three weeks, [ and there had been good inquiry for wood at a satisfactory price. He en- , closed a plan of the proposed rose gar- . den, and reported that Mr MurrayAynsley had forwarded a collection of , polyanthuses and violets. In reply to Mr Davey the secretary said that the Garden Committee had > been empowered to spend £8 on a < rose garden, but the money had not been spent. The report wns adopted, and the * question of repairs and painting to the \ gardener's cottage was referred to Mr : Manhire for a report. Accounts for £22 6s 83 'were' passed i for payment. 1 <
