DUNEDIN NOTES.
[From Our Correspondent.] DUNEDIN, August 17. The local manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company has been advised by cable from the London, office that arrangements have been made with Messrs William Denny Bros, to build a new twin-screw passenger steamer 480 ft x 60ft x 35ft. Her speed will be thirteen knots when fully loaded, and she will have accommodation for fifty-six first-class passengers, seventy-five se-cond-class passengers and 105 thirdclass passengers, But the third-class accommodation can be extended to hold 400 if required. "While J was in Wellington," says the Mayor of Dunedin, "I was very 'much reminded of Dunedin when the mining boom went to the wall here. Nearly everyone there seems to be running about with a quarter-acre section to sell. There are plenty of sellers, but no buyers, so you know what that means. I was told on the best of authority that property outside the city itself has dropped fully gO per cent, and I quite believe that from what I saw."
