SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
A monthly meeting of the West Ohri.stcliurch District High School Comniittt'o was hold on Wednesday evening, Dr Cliilton in tho chair. It was agreed to grant Mr J. H. Jones three months' leave of absence. Mr M'AJurray reported that a sub-commit-tee had accopted tho tender of Mr Green out of ninotcon tenders for erecting a front fence and the fence was nearly complotcd, but new gates were required. The sub-committee was authorised to obtain new gates. The inspector's report on the examinations in the school was received, stating that the work was of a uniformly satisfactory character, both in' the primary and socondary departments. The committee passed a hearty vote of thanks to the headmaster and teaching staff for the excellent work done.
A monthly meeting of the Wharexmi School Committee was held on Tuesday, Mr Hanna in the chair. It was decided to observe the following holidays : — One w<sek in September, Carnival Week, and five weeks from the Thursday before Christmas Day. The headmaster reported the number on the roll to be 225 and the average attendance 185. Messrs Milne and Rankin were appointed a visiting committee for the month. It was decided to have colours for fhe school, and a sub-com-mitteo was appointed to select them. It was resolved to send the names of Misses Lyons and Hanam to the Education Board for the position of assistant mistress. It was decided that at the next meeting the committee should consider ways and means of raising a fund for providing asphalt paths and a swimming bath.
A monthly meeting of the Amberley District High School Committee was held on Thursday evening, Mr R. E. Wornall presiding. It was decided to close the school for one week immediately after the examination, which, it was reported, would be held in the following week.
A monthly meeting of the Sydenham School Committee was held on Tuesday, Mr W. D. Marks presiding. The headmaster reported the average attendance to be 944 and the roll number 1081. The inspector's report was received and considered highly satisfactory, and it was resolved to convey to the headmaster and staff a hearty vote of thanks and congratulations on the very creditable references made respecting the year's work. In order to fill the vacancy on the staff in the girls' department it was decided to recommend the Education Board to promote Misses Adams and Pearson, and to invite applications for the lower position. It was decided that it was desirable that only delegates of affiliated school oommittees should be allowed to vote on questions brought before the School Committees' Association.
The Richmond School Committee met on Monday evening, Mr J. A. Flesher presiding. A letter was received from the Education Boad stating that Mr J. W. M'Gregor had been appointed headmaster of the school, and that he would enter upon his duties on September 1. The Board wrote, stating that, in view of the large number of children leaving Richmond to go to the North Linwood School, it could not eee its way to fill a vacancy, but would continue a temporary arrangement until the matter had been further considered. The acting-headmaster (Mr G. Schneider) reported that the number of scholars on the roll was 639, with an average attendance of 595, and 72 scholars had left to join the new school at Linwood.
