THE COAL-MINERS.
. "THE TROUBLE AT DENNISTON. [From Opr Correspondent.] GREYMOUTH. August 6. In regard to the trouble at Denniston it is understood that the management claims that the services of the man dismissed are being dispensed with in accordance with the award. It is I alleged that the man absented him- • self at a time that he should havd been at work in. the mine. Several deputations waited on the management to urge reinstatement, but the management declined, and the miners, or a section of them, have called a meeting for to-night to take a ballot as to the question of ceasing work on Saturday unless the man in the meantime is reinstated. It is not anticipated, however, that a strike will eventuate, as the men's grievance can probably be remedied by less drastic means. The majority of the miners are understood to bo unfavourable to a strike. [Per Press Association.) WESTPORT, August 6.
