« CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, August 4. (Before Mr H. TV. Bishop. S.M.) Drunkenness.— Oho first offender for drunkenness was fined. 53 and costs, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. Remanded. — Edward Kerr and Edward James Mills were charged, on two informations, with having damaged; fences. Kerr was also charged with having been drunk, and Mills, with having resisted arrost. Both accused pleaded not guilty, and were remanded to Friday. Mr Cassidy, on behalf of Mills, asked for bail, which was granted, the accused in £10 and one surety of £10 on each charge. Order Disobeykd. — Alfred Heiesenbuttel was sentenced to three months' imprisonment for having; disobeyed; a maintenance order requiring him to contribute 20s a week towards the support of his wife. He was £10 12s in arrears. Chief-Detective Bishop said that the case was & very bad one, as the man's wife had a large family. Raw Offal. — Samuel Wood (Mr Hunter) admitted that raw offal had been given to his swine, but said that it was done by his men during his absence at a sale. The Magistrate said that the offence strucTc at the root of the safety of the public health. If the defendant had been present when the offence was committed he would have fined him £50, hut q« it was, the penalty would be £10 and costs. Maintenance. — William Guy (Mr Cassidy) wae ordered to pay 15s « week towards the support of his wife. Affiliation. — Leslie Howard Deighton (Mr Donnelly) admitted the paternity of an illegitimate child, and tros ordered to pay 7s 6d a week towards its support, to pay nil expenses and io find a security of £100 that the order would b© obeyed. Dismissed. — The Magistrate dismissed an application that F. W. Drnmmond should be ordered to find a security that he would obey a maintenance >rder, requiring him to contribute to his wife's support.
