A TRAGEDY. v ■ HOB ART, July 81. , As a result of a quarrel a man named Hudson, twenty-two years of age, shot a girl named Bradley in the back, and clubbed her brother-in-law with a gun, fracturing his jaw and skull. The victims are in a low condition. Hudson has been arrested. THE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN LOAN. ADELAIDE, July 31. The fir^m which was negotiating the terms of the loan with Lloyd's Bank, explains that the Government is open to a charge of breach of faith .through the action of its London representative. The firm's efforts were the result of requests from more than one Treasurer to compete against the so-called London ring. It was not pretended that they or anyone ele&'could do without brokers, who were just as necessary in connection with loans as tea dealers were in the distribution of tea. The firm had succeeded in arranging the business with the largest bank in Great Britain, and some brokers of high standing had made absolutely possible what was said to be impossible. The reason for the failure is one for Government investigation. The firm-has already announced its intention of making no claim for commission, but demands for the credit of South Australia that inquiries should be made by the Government as to the reason why its London representative did not sign the agreement.
