TO-DAY'S MATCHES.

SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. Christchurch (9) v. Old Bo^-s (6). Linwood (35) v. Canterbury College (3)- }■ * Merivale a bye. \ As the weather was fine at ftoon, the Postponement Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union decided \that all competition matches should be- , played. An hour later rain set in, and the conditions were most unfavourable. Owing to the inclusion of Gray and Burns > in the New Zealand team, the' Competitions Committee had previously arranged for the postponement of the Al-Dion-Sydenham game, so that : there were only two senior matches. The third ground at Lancaster Park was set apart for the President's Cup same between Sydenham A and B<2js' SHierJi School. At 2.30 p.m. most of •. £he teams were on the ground, but Mr s. | Orchard, the in the President's. Cut> srame, decided that the wearh'en;

matches were gone on with, at the request of the competing teams. LINWOOD v. CANTERBURY COLLEGE. Linwood beat Canterbury College by thirty-five points (nine tries, a penalty goal, and a goal from a try) to three (a try). College had Linwood on the defensive earjy in the game, but Harvey, Shaw and Evans centred play, and a passing rush, initiated by Ormandy, compelled College to "force twice, but the College forwards led a good rush, and Alexander forced for Linwood. From further footwork Egan passed to Ormandy, who, kicking and following up, scored near the corner. From loose play Green broke away and scored Linwood's second try, and the third followed by play between Egan and Loader from the line-out, Loader following up fast, and touching down. From a scrum Ormandy set the game in motion, and Evans, following up, fell on the ball. College were forced again, and shortly afterwards Loader, with a good run, scored the fifth try. Evans got the next try for Linwood, after some pretty loose play, and he kicked a goal, the first or the match. Ormandy then broke m away, and scored, just before half time, the teams changing ends without an interval. Here Evans put in some good footwork from half way, and, with a timely "foot p^ass, gave Loader a scoring chance, which wao accepted, near the corner! College then brightened up, and the forwards, working well, took the play to the Linwood line, where, from a line-out, Long-ton was unmarked, and scored for College. Linwood returned, and from a penalty Wilson kicked a goal. M'Callum forced twice for College in dangerous positions, but Linwood could not be kept out, and Loader again scored. Shortly before time the Linwood forwards found themselves without opposition,, and Thomas ancl Evans raced down, Thomas scoring the final try. Mr A. C. Fuller was referee. CHRISTCHURCH v. OLD BOYS. The Christchurch Seniors won their first match of the season by defeating Old Boys by three tries (nine points to a goal from a mark and a try (six points). In the first spell Moore- and Morrison scored tries for Christchurch, and Shirriffs kicked a goal from a mark' by Guiney for Old Boys. In the second spell Jacobsen scored a try for Christchurch, and Dougall scored, one for Old Boys. The victory of Christchurch was due to the players adapting themselves to the weather and ground conditions. They left the ball on the ground and kicked hard, whereas the Old Boys attempted to play a passing game. The feature of the match was the fine play of the full-backs, Shirriffs and Button. Mr J. F. Peake was Teferee.
