FRUITGROWERS' ASSOCIATION
♦ ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting, of the Canterbury Fruitgrowers' Association was held last evening. Mr F. Sisson was in the chair, and there was aa attendance of some thirty members. The secretary (Mr E. Wilkinson) read the annual report, which detailed the work done during the previous year, special reference being made to the desirability of the Orchard and Garden Pests Act being more stringently enforced. The report stated that the receipts for the year had been £14 10s 6d and the expenditure £16 ls 9d, leaving a debit balance of £1 lis 3d. In moving the adoption of the report, the chairman stated tliat he had been able to get all his orchard requisites at wholesale price, which was at least 12 per cent less than that charged by retailers. He urged that a list of members should be drawn up and that all members should assert their claim to be sold goods at wholesale price. As soon as it became known that the Association could secure that concession the membership would increase, and as it grew the Government would be compelled to give more attention to the Association's demands. - The report was adopted. It was resolved that an effort should be made to secure the destruction of scale on quick fences, and especially on those growing on railway reserves, which were stated by several members to be extremely dangerous to plant life near them.
