LUCKY NUMBERS.

CULVERDEN ESTATE BALLOT

That the first ballot for a Section in the Culverden Estate should go to the proverbially unlucky number of thir, teen, and that, too, on a Friday, must have set the superstitious thinking this morning, and certainly before the ballot was concluded those who might have pinned their faith to the magic of numbers, signs, portents, or omens, had plenty of material to work out tbe possibilities of the final figures. That there was a strong interest in the way that the numbers went up was shown by the astonishment that was evident all through the room when the first ball was drawn from the box, and there was a great deal of whispering when later on the second "thirteen" was. posted. For those who may have time to work some magic with the figures of interest in the ballot, a table is given below showing first the number of the section, secondly the number of applicants, and thirdly the number of the ballot balL drawn in that section : — Seotion Applicants.
