CHINESE SAILORS.
+ MR CHURCHILL'S ACTION APPROVED. United Press Associaition — By Electric Telegraph— 'Copyright: (Received June 26, 9.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, June 26. The Seamen's Union hae adopted resolutions complimenting the Right Honourable Winston Churchill, President of the Board of Trade, on his recent action against the enjoyment of Chinese ori British ships. The secretary of the Union says that the encroachment of Lascars and Chinese in the Australian trade is becoming a very disturbing element. The masters of ships engaged in the Pacific trade have found a way of signing on in the East and ooming to Australia with Chinese crews. The secretary also complained of the competition of Norwegian vessels with. Norwegian crews engaged at lower rates of pay than those current in the Commonwealth. (Replying to a questidn. in the House of Commons on May 14, Mr Churchill said that the recent unusual increase in the number of Chinese seamen shipped from United Kingdom ports was a matter of terious concern, and was receiving the Board of Trade's prompt and searching attention.)
