At the Braybrook inquest the jury discovered that the block register showed conditions similar to those that led to the disaster, namely, the line was given clear instead of what is known as the one-five signal. At the half-yearly 'meeting of the Kauri Timber Company, the chairman elated that business generally had been well maintained, and that there was no ground for uneasiness regarding the prospects.
