I _— , SPEECH BY MR MASSEY. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND. June 25. Mr Massey, replying to the Premier's ! recent utterances, said in a speech at Tekuiti that the majority of Ministers i were prepared to accept the Socialist platform, while probably not twentyfive per cent of the people of the country were in sympathy with it. The statement as to taxation was both right and wrong. No direct taxation had been imposed, but 1 the unimproved value of land had been increased to a great degree, and the land tax and death duties were increasing rapidly in conssquen.ee. An. official return showed that taxation, was increasing yearly. Mr Massey contradicted the statement tEal the Opposition was antagonistic to the workers. It was thoroughly democratic and liberal and anxious for the well-being of the country and people. Mr Massey was '■ accorded a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence, and was subsequently entertained at a banquet.
