i « < There was a record gate at the winder show in Dunedin yesterday, the takings amounting to £390. The first annual social gathering of the Canterbury Old Colonists' Association will be held in the Alexandra IHall on Monday next. It is understood that Lady Ward Jwill be present at the address to be given at His Majesty's Theatre by the Premier on Monda3' evening. A meeting; of the Lyttelton Harbour Board will be held on Wednesday, at ■which Messrs Coode, Son and Matthews's report <m the canal scheme will be laid beforo the Board. On account of the success of the chrysanthemum show recently held in aid of the funds of the Lyttelton Methodist Church, it was decided at a meeting Jof the congregation to make the show Ja-n annual fixture. [ At a sitting of the Lyttelton Police \Court this morning, before Mr J. T. Brice, J.P., a male first offender was convicted of drunkenness, and ordered to be discharged on payment of Is 6d for the hire of a cart in which he had been taken to the police station. « Mr James Young, who was recently .appointed to the position of head cavdener to the Christchurch Domain jWrd, was in Christchurch yesterday, 'grid in company with the chairman of the Board, Mr H. At a recent meeting of parishioners t>f Holy Trinity parish, Lyttelton, it ■^;;« decided to hold a show of spring flowers about the end of September. A very successful entertainment was held at*the Lower Biccarton Anglican Mission Room on Wednesday evening, June 3, when Archdeacon Averill gave a lecture entitled, "A Trip to the Holy Land/ 1 the proceeds of which are to be devoted to the repayment of the balance of the loan still owing on the building. The lecture was much appreciated by those present, and at its conclusion a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the lecturer for his kindness in giving it.
