The cnairinan reported tnat the executive natl received with much gratefulness a sum ot J-000, and steps were being taken to obtain the money now loc-ced up from the Moral J. et'e Com- ' mittee, and carry out the original proposal to improve the Avon. I'he Asso- . cia.ion had a sum of £I_.oo,- of which I £700 would mature on April 17, 1909, and £500 on May 16, 1909. He hoped, however, that the sound state of the finances would not deter any- , body from subscribing, for there was 1 much to do with all the money that could be obtained. „ On the motion of Mr Ell, seconded by Mr Humphreys, it was decided that the trees on the Dyer's _ :, /iss Road should be inspected. Mr Ell said that, owing to the representations of the executive, the Railway Department had agreed to clean up the yard at the Colombo Street crossing, out he thought more might be done. The Association might very well spend a few pounds in planting and laying out part of. the grounds with low-grow-ing shrubs and similar plants, in the same manner as was done in Dtmedin. He understood that the Department would be prepared, to set aipart some land for the purpose. It was agreed that the executive 6-iotild be asked to take steps in the matter. On the motion of Mr Ell it was decided to write to the lUinister of Justice regarding the untidy state of the riverbank opposite the Supreme Court between the Armagh Street and Victoria Street bridges. I It was decided that the attention ef
the City Council should be drawn to the fact that it was necessary to pianf new willows on Park Terrace, as the branches of many of the trees were rotting and falling, and to the state of the river bank on the exhibition side oi P£rk Terrace. ) ' . . Mr Ell suggested that inquiries should be made as to the possibility of obtaining a chain road on each side or the Avon from Cowlishaw's corner to New Brighton, and it was decided that consideration, of the suggestion should be deferred. t A suggestion made by Mr Jones that permission should be obtained to place on the south side of Moorhouse Avenue the tiees which were to be planted, and to put them the same distance from the kerb as on the north side, was referred to the executive. . Dr Chilton said that advertisements were being painted on bridges and in different parts of the town. He thought the practice should be stopped. The chairman said that the attention of the City Council would be drawn to the matter. , On the suggestion of Mr Humphreys it was decided to write to the Sumner Boroush Council protesting against tlie disfigurement of rocks on the Sumner Road with advertisements.
