Mitchelson, chairman of the Auckland Rac- [ ing Club, said that his club nearly two years ago had taken the initiative Un regard to suppressing bookmakers. He would favour wiping out bookmakere altogether. He admitted that Mr North had touched .a weak spot in regard to racing and the regulation of the totalisator clubs. The representatives of the metropolitan clubs at the Racing Conference would willingly agree to reduce the number of clubs and days of raciug, but they were outvoted. 1 by the representatives of country clubs. " There is no doubt," he said, "that there is far too much racing." He agreed with Mi^ North as to the necessity of urging, on the Government the suppression of non-totalisator clubs, the restriction of totalisator clubs, and the prohibition of proprietary racing.
