TOO MUCH SAIL.

» In a little village on the coast of Cornwall there lives a rather cantankerous old fisherman, who, after 1 a prolonged experience of a bachelor's lifo, suddenly took it into his head to woo a very smart young damsel for a wife. But not long after the wedding took place it became evident, even to the least observant of the neighbours that the union was far from being a success. One day their unceasing contentions reached a climax that was far removed from mere argument, and in their more than wordy altercation tbe wife did not come off the victor. The contest and its result got noised abroad, and the worthy vicar of the parish was told the story. Happening to meet the old man shortly after on the beach, the parson administered a stern rebuke, reminding him that his wife was the " weaker vessel." "Well, then passon," was the old fisherman's dogged rejoinder, "if she be the weaker vessel she didn't ought ter carry so much sail."
