CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION. A meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union was .held yesterday ;' present — Messrs A. •E. G. Rhodes (president), G. H. Mason. P; Menzies, F. L. Murray, F. T. Evans; G. Scott, G. Matthews, J. R. Evans^ S. F. Wilson and W. G. Garrard (hou secretary). - The Sydenham Club - wrote . stating that it could not see its way to subscribe to the Bayly memorial fund, but would communicate with old members. H. Edgar applied for transfer from the Old Boys' Club to Canterbury College Club, and his application was granted. The report of the sub-committee regarding dates for country matches was j approved. Matches were fixed for May 25 v. Ashburton at Ashburton and 'Ellesmere v. Leeston; June 4, Ashburton v. Ellesmere; and June 6. combined team v. Canterbury. Explanations were received from the Belfast, Richmond, Lyttelton and Linwood Clubs regarding their having included in their teams in Saturday's competition matches players who were not on their lists. Aitet some discussion it was decided to line each club 5s for the breach, and it was decided to warn clubs that future breaches would be much more severely dealt with. Mr Mason referred to the matter of transfers, saying that there was always a likelihood of friction between the Management and Permit Committees, and the matter would be better if delegated to a sub-committee. Mr Garrard said that when the delegates had passed the rule regarding transfers there had been no idea as to how it would be administered, and he was strongly in favour of the suggestion brought forward by Mr Mason. If the work was done by a sub-committee it would jbe done with more advantage to the clubs. It was decided that no player should be placed oh a list by the Permit Committee if a transfer was required, unless the transfer had been granted by the. committee. Mr F. T. Evans said that the public had been a great, nuisance on the south' ground at Lancaster Park _ on Saturday, having trooped over with bicycles after the other matches. He asked whether the committee .could not do something in the matter. Mr Mason said that the gate from that ground led to a lot of the trouble, and the committee should ask the Park authorities to take some action. Mr Garrard said that tho best thing to do was to fence the ground and prosecute anyone who trespassed over the boundary. Mr Mason moved that application should be made to the Park authorities to have the Leicester Street gate closed, and the motion was carried. Mr J. R. Evans referred to the similarity in the sound of referees' whistles and the consequent annoyance caused in matches being played close to each other. , It was decided to refer the matter to the Referees' Association.
