CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

BOARD OF GOVERNORS. The Board of Governors of "Canterbury College met yesterday; present — Mr G. W. Russell (chairman), Bishop Grimes, Dean Harper, Dr Moorhouse and Messrs J. C. Adams, T. "W. Adams, L. B. Wood, W. Izard, W. H. Montgomery, C. H. A. T Opie. H. G. Ell, M.P., G. T. Weston and T W. Rowe. The chairman reported that notice, had been received from the Education Department of certain alterations in the payment of capitation for technical classes. The matter had been referred to those departments affected, and it was found that ths Canterbury College finances would be affected only to the extent of £5 or £6. The Royal Geological Society of London wrote expressing its gratification that at its centenary celebrations recently held, Canterbury College had been represented by so distinguished a delegate a6Mr H. G. Denham. The "History" of the Society was being forwarded as. a donation to the Public Library, as a memento of the' centenary. , ' The letter was received. Tlie town clerk wrote stating that the Christchurch City Council would be glad to confer with the Board on the subject of municipally assisting the finances of the Public Library. It was decided that the date of the conference should be fixed by the Museum and Library Committee. The Museum and Library Committee recommended- the Board to apply to the Domain Board to have the title to the site of the Museum vested in the Board of* Governors. " Tho report was adopted. The College Committee recommended that the subject of dental anatomy should be taken by Professor Chilton for, say, one hour per week, fees two guineas per term, the requisite number of lectures'for the current term to be made up and Professor Chilton to be r>aid £50 per annum. The report was adopted. The College and Finance and Estates Committees, having held a joint meeting, recommended that the Board's 1 architects should be instructed to prepare a design, up to £8000, of a building for the proposed new chemical laboratory, of the same class as the College buildings; that a sub-committee, consisting of the chairman, Messrs J. C. Adams, Scott and Montgomery, should be set up to act with Professor Evans. The report was adopted, with the amendment that the amount to be named should be £5000, and that the building should be designed for enlargement in future. .The chairman reported that the sum of £601 8s 6d had been paid by the Boys' High School into the fund for the gymnasium, and a subsidy had been received upon that contribution. The Premier had written stating that, in the event of the establishment of a coneervatorium of music, the offer of the Board to provide a site would receive consideration. The chairman laid on the table the annual statement of accounts and the certificate of the Audit Ofiice. When the report had been read it was received, and the di-scussion was adjourned till the next ordinary meeting. The Board then rose.
