The Canadian Government invited Mr Deakin to represent Australia at the Quebec tercentenary celebrations. After communicating with Earl Dudley, Mr Deakin replied regretting that parliamentary duties prevented him visiting Canada, but stating that he had arranged for Earl Dudley to represent the Commonwealth at the celebra. tions.
