At present trains do not run over this line, but go by way of what is commonly known as " the deviation." It is stated that the cutting, which is a large one, will be practically useless, and it will involve a large expenditure to remake it. The subsidence occurred when the workmen were widening the cutting. The crevasse in the Waiouru cutting is 15 feet deep, running at right angles across the formation. It is believed to be an old dried-up underground watercourse. It is anticipated it can be filled up with stones without trouble. DUNEDIN, March 25. For the twelve months just ended the city tramways show a profit of £5500. _____
