COMPENSATION.
. ♦ ■ THE CULVERDEN ESTATE. AMOUNT AWARDED £119,450. The Compensation Court, consistingof his Honor Mr Justice Denniston and Messrs J. Rennie and D. D. Macfa-r---l_.ne, assessors, which heard the evidence in the claim of the trustees of the Culverden Estate against the Government/for the sum of £162,037 for the oompulsory acquirement of the estate for closer settlement, sat this afternoon. Mr D. M. Findlay, with him Mr Cassidy, represented the Crown, and Mr Stringer, with hiin_ Mr Russell, the trustees. On resuming, his Honor said that the award had been arrived. at by a majority of the Court. It included all the subject of the claim in a lump sum. It was understood that the' two amounts-included in the memorandum from the solicitors of both parties — £382 5e and £168 15s, for adjusting mortgages, were accepted bjr the mortgagees as settling any claim against th© Crown. The Court's * award wa_ £119.450, including costs. The assessors' fees were fixed at ten guineas for foWr days.
