CORSAIR BAY BATHS.

THE HOURS UNSUITABLE. The Lyttelton Borough Council, in fixing the ladies' hours at the Corsair Bay Baths from 9 a.m. to o p.m., and thus giving them the best hours of the day, is causing considerable discussion amongst the male bathers in Lyttelton. By setting aside the hours between 0 a m. and 5 p.m. for the exclus.ive use of ladies, the Council has closed them during the best hours of the day for men. One resident of Lyttelton, speaking to a reporter to-clay, condom ned the arrangement as a gross injustice to male swimmers. " The women don't use the baths much," the said, "huh they have the entire day set aside for them. When the weather is colder, it will be very uncomfortable bathing before nine o'clock, and the water quickly gets chilly after five o'clock in the evening. Many men who work in Lyttelton come down at about nine o'clock, and would enjoy a dip during the middle of the day. The Lyttelton Borough Council, however, will not allow them to use- its baths, which were obtained mainly by the agitation of Lyttelton' s male bathers, because the women must have the entire day. Ido not want the women to suffer any disadvantage, bat they should not have the monopoly of the hours. Why not make the hours for ladies 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. That would be much fairer and more suitable tliao the present hours, which are unjust and absurd." On making inquiries elsewhere +h© reporter found that the hours were .characterised as wholly unsuitable and unjust. The Borough Council's action has been condemned almost universally in the Port, and it is understood that the male bathers intend to make strong reprw n tat ions to the Council that the hours should be altered.
