ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last evening; present — Messrs W. G. Atack (chairman), E. Nordon, C. J. Cooper, J. F. Grierson, G. H. Mason, D. Hamber, J. R. Olliver, H. S. Batchelor and J. E. Green (honorary secretary). Mr Green reported as delegate to the Sports Federation Conference that eleven governing bodies were represented at the conference, and there was a unanimity of opinion that the federation of sports governing bodies was desirable in the interests of sport in the dominion. The subscription for affiliated bodies was fixed at £2 2s.

The annual report stated that during the past year the following clubs had been affiliated with the Associa-* tion: — Otago — Tokomariro, Tapanui, Oamaru and Congregational;. Canterbury — Trinity Harriers, Waimate Harriers and Christchurch Presbyterian Bible Class; Wellington— Christ Church Amateur Athletio (Wanganui), Civil Service and Catholic Young Men's; Auckland — Auckland University. The number of affiliated clube was fortynine. The New Zealand Presbyterian and New Zealand Methodist Young Men's Unions had stated that they would organise clubs in the chief centres, and there was a prospect of new clubs being started in Hawke's Bay, Taranaki and Westland. Ac the Tesult of representations by the Council, the date of the Australasian Championshio meeting had been altered from November, 1907, to February, 1908. It was hoped that New Zealand would be adequately represented, and that the Association would be represented on the Board of Control of the Australasian Union, whioh would meet at Hobart in February. ' The balancesheet showed that tlie year had started with a credit balance of £54 18s 10d, which had been increased to £102 10s sd. Amounts owing to the Council totalled £10 19s 9d, and the liabilities were nil.

The report and balance-sheet were unanimously adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:— President, Mr W. G. Atack; vice-president, Mr H. S. Batchelor; honorary secretary, Mr J. E. Green; auditor, Mr D. Hoare. The annual championship meeting was allotted to the Wellington Centre, Tho following conditions were agreed to for the competition for the All-round Championship for which a gold medal will be annually presented by Mr W. L. Hooper, of Dunedin : — The entrance fee shall be £1, to entitle to entry in each and all of the five events comprising the All-round Championship. In each of the five championship events points shall be allowed ranging from 1000 for performances equal to the New Zealand amateur records, to nil in the caee of those equal to the limit imposed, beneath which no points shall be allowed. Record breakers 6hall receive additional points pro rata beyond 1000, and competitors failing to achieve the limit in two or more events shall be disqualified. The value of the championship gold medal shall be £3 3s, and the second prize shall be a trophy valued at £2 2s. The following shall be the events and the lowest standard allowed : — 22oyds Flat, 31sec. One Mile Flat, Bmin 30 sec ; Long Jump, 15 feet ; Putting the Shot, 22 feet; Throwing the Hammer, 60 feet.

Messrs Atack, Green and Batchelor were appointed a committee to consider suggestions for consideration at the conference of the Australasian Board of Control in February. The secretary of the Amateur Athletic Union of Australasia wrote stating that H. G. Kerr's walking records had been held over for consideration at tho annual conference, it being considered that the records were not possible performances under the rule 3. The reinstatement of J. P. Coomber (Milton), D. G. Matthews (Canterbury), J. W. Ruesel, R. B. Russel, Arthur Craig, R. H. Norrie, W. Wurr, J. T. Gregan and S. N. Fenton (Tuapeka), and Andrew Frew (Wanganui) was confirmed. The application of W. B. O'Brien (Wellington) was referred back to the Wellington Centre for further information, and the application of P. A. M'Coll (Wellington) was refused. Votes of thanks were accorded to Messrs Davis, secretary of the Wellington Centre, and Hammond, secretary of the Otago Centre, and to Messrs C. T. Aschman and D. Hoare, retiring members of the Council. An honorarium of £15 16s was voted to Mr J. E. Green, for his services ac honorary secretary.

A meeting of those interested in holding sports on Boxing Day was held in the Doyieston Public Hall on Wednesday evening. Mr M. Dixon was in the chair, and about forty persons were present. It was resolved to hold sports on Boxing Day, and the following officers were elected : — Patron, Mr R. H. Rhodes, M.H.R.; president, Mr M. Dixon; vice-presidents, Messre R. Graham, W. J. Doyle, H. H. Cook, A W Hils, J. M'Lachlan, M.H.R.. A. Werner, J. W. A. Walker, G. E. Rhodes, F. Amor, J. Boag, juni J. Robb, J. M'Cormack, J. Scott/ J. Pearce, J. Rennie, D. Scott, C. G. Lamb, J. Miller, j. Shaw, J. Heslop, A. Quigley, W. M'Millan, J. Osborne, J. F. Donald and J. Campbell; secretary, Mr R. Trevella; treasurer, Mr W. J. Doyle; committee, Messrs H. Kiesell, G. Cooke, P. Greenan, T. Dixon, G. Nairn, J. Shaw, J. Rennie, W. Scott. 0. Rennie. E. Burrows, J. Fussell, A. Appleton, Bn d Hugh- Miller. It was decided that the programme Bhould include athletic sports only.
