Frederick Helbert, formerly private secretary to Lord Carrington, when that nobleman was Governor of New South Wales, was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment at the Old Bailey on a charge of misappropriating £850 belonging to Miss Frances M'Carthy, whoso property he managed.
