CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, September 3. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) Drunkenness. — Two first offenders were each fined 5s and costs, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment, for having been drunk. Vagrancy. — John Henry Roberts was convicted on a charge of vagrancy, and, declining an offer to go to the Samaritan Home, he was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. Maintenance. — William' Millar (Mr Donnelly) wa6 ordered to contribute 2s 6d a week towards the support of each of his two grand-daughters. Summary Separation. — Charlotte Hoft (Mr Donnelly) applied for a separation order from her husband, William Hoft (Mr Hunt), on the ground of his' persistent cruelty. The evidence given for the. applicant was that the respondent, when drunk, had hit her and had knocked her about, blacking her eye. The respondent denied the accusations of bis wife, and said that the trouble was caused by her brother, who threatened to kill him. The order was granted, the wife to have the custody of two children. The respondent was ordered to contribute £1 a week towards his wife's support, and to pay the coste of the action..
