If the land question is put aside, there is no difference ot opinion amongst members of the House regarding the Financial Statement. It is admitted on all sides that the Statement is a statesmanlike utterance containing many proposals that will be welcomed by all sections of the community. The concessions outlined in connection with the tariff have the approval of practically every member in general terms, although there is likely to be trouble over details. The removal of the duty from motor-cars, for instance, is not regarded with any favour by a number of members, on the ground that the people who buy motor-cars are better able to pay duties than the people who buy the common foodstuffs upon which the Customs Department at
